Liuhe(Six Harmonies)Pagoda was built in the year 970 in the Northern SongDynasty. It stands on Mount Yuelun beside the Qiantang River,Hangzhou,Zhe jiang Province.

The pagoda used to be very magnificent with nine stories. It was originally built to suppress the tidal bore of the Qiantang River in Hangzhou Gulf by the King of Wuyue,Qian Hongchu.Even now,the statue of Buddha against tidal bore still remains on the walls of the pagoda.

In the past 1,000 years or more, the pagoda has been damaged many times.Especially in 1121,it was almost completely damaged during the war.The present pagoda was rebuilt in 1153.The construction of it took 11 years.It(13-storied outside, but 7-storied inside)is shorter than the former one.It rises to a height of 59.89 meters, being the highest pagoda in Hangzhou.
