The new Zhe jiang Library,which was opened to the public in late 1998,is on Shuguang Road near Yellow Dragon Cave .The old one,a historical place under provincial protection,is located on Daxue Road and has a collection of 70,000 old books.

In 1911,a part of the palace in the Qing Dynasty was dedicated to the library to house The Complete Books of the Four Treasures,which had been kept at Wenlan Pavilion before.Now Zhe jiang Library has a collection of 4.7 million books and is one of China’s most famous libraries with the largest collection.It is known for its collection of rare hand-copied books.

This provincial library consists of the new building at Shuguang Road as its center,and other important buildings on Gushan Road and Daxue Road in Hangzhou andin Nanxun of Huzhou.It has more than 100 branches across the province.
