Zhang Xiaoquan Scissors

Let’s face it，scissors aren’t exactly the prefect holiday gift，but to the people of Hangzhou，scissors mean Zhang Xiaoquan.He was a great pre-industrial craftsman who created perhaps one of the greatest inventions of the ancient age:scissors.

Zhang’s process for making the perfect pair of clippers involved as many as 72 different steps.The most formidable step of all is setting steel in wrought iron to be hammered repeatedly，then ground with mud bricks to give it a sharp edge.In 2006，the forging techniques of Zhang Xiaoquan scissors were added to the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
