New Breakthrough in Pan-Beibu Gulf Cooperation

Pan-Beibu Gulf Cooperation is an important sub-regional cooperation effort between China and ASEAN countries as well as maritime program between the two parties. The program involves eight ASEAN countries namely Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Brunei together with China’s Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi July 2006 to July 2009, Guangxi hosted four Pan-Beibu Gulf economic cooperation forums which made significant achievements a high degree of consensus reached at the national level; the establishment of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Expert Commission with three productive meetings; discussion and approval of the Feasibility Report on Pan-Beibu Gulf Cooperation by the commission and the founding of the China Expert Secretariat; initial progress on port cooperation and other detailed projects; and the promotion to national strategy status of the Guangxi Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, an important component of the regional cooperation program, thereby accelerating development prospects.
