Neo-environmentalism architecture style

2 min read

Neo-environmentalism,also known as ecologism,is an architectural planning and design theory and method based on ecological thoughts and principles.Generally speaking, ecological principles and methods are used to treat indoor and outdoor architectural environment as an organic whole system with structures and functions, reach the goal of coordinated development of people, architecture, nature and society, use and reform nature temperately, and look for indoor and outdoor architectural environments suitable for man’s survival and development and consistent withthe ecological perspective. This new thought on architecture developed in the past few years, making architects face new topics such as the sustainable development strategy, resource conservation, creation of green ecological architecture and ecological environment.

The engineering design of the Xiangshan Campus of the China Academy of Art(the first phase and second phase)designed by Wang Shu is a case reflecting the practice of sustainable design combining technology and culture in China. The campus design fully uses Chinese traditional concepts of architectural and environmental design, and emphasizes technical methods such as natural ventilation, shading, recycling of old architectural materials, natural, ecological and local plants and rainwater-catching structural systems In terms of forms, its dynamic curves echo with undulating hills. The circular corridors and aisles inside and outside buildings are like winding snakes, seeming to strengthen the respiration of the buildings. With the establishment of the global strategy of sustainable development, such integrity manifested by the new outlook on ecological value is just a new form of sustainable design in the new era of human existence-the 21st century.
