Guangxi has large mineral reserves-of nonferrous metals in particular. Discoveries of 145 minerals have been made, accounting for 42.9% of proven reserves in China. Of the 99 types of mineral with proven reserves, reserves of 12 types are the highest in China. Its bauxite, with a proven reserve of6 808 million tons and long-term- reserve of one billion tons, concentrated distribution and high quality, is easy to exploit, making Guangxi a production base of fine sandy for 35.47% of China’s total, and reserves of tin, antimony indium accounting respectively for 20.17%, 25.13% and 32% of the total Chinese reserves. Its indium output represents one third of the world total. Guangxi also has abundant nonmetal minerals there are extensively distributed, large reserves of high quality limestone; its reserves of kaolin, talcum and bentonite are huge,making it possible to build the largest cement base in south China.
