Guangxi has a large number of wild animals and has among the most extensive distribution of wild animals of any province in China. It is home to 884 kinds of wild terrestrial vertebrates  including 520 kinds of birds, accounting for 43.8% of the national total; 133 kinds of beasts, accounting for 30%; 74 kinds of amphibians, accounting for 35%; and 157 kinds of reptiles, accounting for 45.9%. Unique wild animals are the Nonggang babbler (Stachyris nonggangensis) and the white headed leaf monkey (Presbytis leucocephalus ) The latter and the eastern black-crested gibbon(Nomascus nasutus) are recognized as the rarest primates in the world.

In 2008, Guangxi registered 15 million hectares of forests, indicating a 54.2% coverage rate, the fourth-highest rate in China and three times the national average. It is home to more than 8,000 kinds of forest trees, including over 1, 000 arbor trees (ranking third in China ) as well as 8, 354 kinds of wild plants (also the third highest in China). There are 122 kinds of rare and endangered plants under State-level key protection, accounting for 31.6% of plants in that category, and ranking second in the country. Golden camellia, silver fir, tree fern and Parashorea Chinensis Wang Hsie are under first-grade State protection.
