Hemudu culture(5000 BC to 3300 BC)was firstly discovered in 1973 atHemudu,Yuyao,Zhejiang Province.Therefore,it was named Hemudu culture.

The social economy in Hemudu culture was dominated by agriculture.Hemudu culture was one of the earliest cultures to cultivate rice.And Hemudu people also had stock farming,hunting as well as fishing.They liked domesticated pigs and dogs and practiced hunting of deer and some wild water buffalo.

The farming implement of Hemudu culture is represented by the heavy use of tilling tool. Articles for their daily use were mainly pottery,with a few wooden wares.

In the meantime,some musical instruments have also been found at Hemudu,such as bone whistles and wooden drums.

A11 in all,Hemudu is one of the earliest relics in the southeast coastal region in China.Hemudu culture makes great contribution in the formation of the ancient culture of the Chinese nation.
