1 min read

Known as one of the four greatest mosques in Southeast China, the Hangzhou Phoenix Mosque was built during the Tang Dynasty. It is an iconic religious structure with more than a thousand years of history, marked with fabulous Arabic calligraphy and said to be built by an Egyptian trader. The Mosque was once destroyed during the Song Dynasty but was rebuilt in 1281 and expanded to its current handsome form between 1451 and 1493.It once played host to the famous Moroccan Sufi traveler Ibn Battuta in 1345.Today theminarets and halls have been restored to their former grandeur.Located on ZhongshanMiddle Road, the same place it was more than a millennium ago,the mosque is now over 240 square meters with a grand entrance hall and prayer area, still a functioning site of worship today.
