Zhoushan is located to the East China Sea at the south-east part of the Yangtze River Delta off the Hangzhou Bay.The Zhoushan Archipelago comprises1,390 islands and 3,306 reefs.It is the largest archipelago of China.Among these islands,103 are inhabited all the year round,58 are larger than one square kilometer,and only 12 have population over 10,000.There are two districts and two counties in Zhoushan:Dinghai District,Putuo District,Daishan County,and Shengsi County.

Zhoushan has a long history,and people inhabited there in the Neolithic Age before 6,000 years.It was set up into a county in the Tang Dynasty and was built into a city in March,1987.Zhoushan Transoceanic Bridges consists of five consecutive bridges which connect Zhoushan to the mainland.The painstaking huge project,started in 1999 and completed in 2010,is the largest bridge group in China.Xihoumen Bridge,in particular,is the world’s second-longest suspension bridge in terms of the length of the central span.
