Sea Angling: The Golf of the Ocean

1 min read

After a short 30 minute boat ride we arrived at the small fishing island of Baisha,From a distance was struck by its resemblance to the fishing villages that are dotted along my native Yorkshire’s ruggedly beautiful coastline decaying whitewashed homes stacked higgledy-piggeldy in the hills whilst swaying fisherman’s boats idly bob in the foreground. These familiar sights and smells brought previously deep-rooted feelings of innocence and merriment to the forefront of my mind. At the same time however, the approaching island was unmistakably vilion and painted Chinese characters scrawled on the sea-beaten harbor walls.

Sea anglers like Mosquito find the sport a tonic to the stresses of the modern world. With your trusty rod in your hand and your feet positioned on the sea battered rocks, your heart and mind are purified by natures timeless charms.

Since the setup of a professional angling club in 2003, the Putuo area has become something of an angling hot-spot. In 2004 the first national sea angling competition was held here, and in 2005 Zhoushan beat Qingdao to take the crown -a fact that fills Mosquito with obvious pride.
