Mountain People-Afghanistan

The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is an inland country located in Asia Midwest, in the heartland of Asia. It is fairly related to most of its neighboring countries in religion, language and geography. The transportation is inconvenient in 3/5 of its territory. Its main economic pillar is agriculture, but arable land is less than 2/3 of agricultural land, thus it is one of the poorest countries in the world. Xinjiang shares a border line with Afghanistan of 92km, but there currently is no formal open trade port. The contiguous area between Xinjiang and Afghanistan is the famous “Wakhan Corridor”. Afghan has a population of about 29.93 million (census data in January of 2007), with Pashtu and Tajik accounting for 40% and 25%, respectively.
