The Office Memorial of the Eighth Route Army in Xinjiang is located at Shengli Road, Urumqi City. It is a Sino-Russian two-storied building of civil-engineering structure.A granite stele on the right in the courtyard was carved with Dong Biwu’s elegant inscriptions,”Office Memorial of the Eighth Route Army in Xinjiang”. It was the administrative office founded by the Chinese Communist Party in Xinjiang for leading to fight the invading army during the anti-Japanese war period from 1937 to 1942.

In 1937, the Japanese invaders initiated the long-planned all-out war of aggression against China, and the Chinese army started the full-scale anti-Japanese war. After the anti-Japanese war broke out, the Chinese Communist Party made tremendous efforts, and the Kuomintang and the Communist Party cooperated with each other again in September of the same year, which officially formed the anti-Japanese national united front. To motivate patriotic personages of various circles to take part in the anti-Japanese war and expand the national salvation movement, the Chinese Communist Party founded the offices of the Eighth Route Army successively in Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi’ an, Chongqing, Dihua and so on from late August to early September of 1937, and the Office of the Eighth Route Army in Xinjiang was named the Third Nanliang Guesthouse at that time.

The work in the Office of the Eighth Route Army in Xinjiang was hosted by representatives of the Chinese Communist Party. The first party representatives were Chen Yun and Teng Daiyuan, the second party representative was Deng Fa, and the third party representative was Chen Tanqiu. Zhou Enlai, Wang Jiaxiang and Cai Chang and so on once lived here in their roundtrip between Yan’ an and Russia.

In September of 1943, Sheng Shicai surrendering to the Kuomintang to fight against the communists killed leading comrades such as Chen Tanqiu and Mao Zemin secretly, and the Office of the Eighth Route Army in Xinjiang was forced to close. During over five years’ work time, the Office of the Eighth Route Army in Xinjiang led the master detachment of the West-Route Army and the communist cadres throughout Xinjiang. It firmly implemented the anti-Japanese national united front policy of the Communist Party, and made an enormous contribution to the aspects such as maintaining national unity, ensuring smooth international traffic, culturing competent people to fight against the Japanese and found the state, supporting the anti-Japanese warfront, and promoting the development of politics, economy, culture, education and health service in Xinjiang.

The Office Memorial of the Eighth Route Army in Xinjiang exhibits Revolutionary Struggle Stories of the Chinese Communist Party in Xinjiang during the Anti-Japanese War Period, and exhibits remains and life stories of revolutionary martyrs such as Deng Fa, Chen Tanqiu, Mao Zemin, Du Zhongyuan, Lin Jilu, Qiao Guozhen and Wu Maolin.
