At 3 pm on October 1,the PRC founding ceremony began.

After Mao Zedong read the declaration from the Central People’s Government,the military parade began.All the troops to be reviewedpassed in front of the Tian’anmen Rostrum from east to west in the sequence of the navy,the army and the air force.

Commander-in-chief Zhu De in military uniform reviewed the troops from his parade car with Nie Rongzhen.The troop consisted of the navy,the army and air forces.The march followed.The parade lasted about 2.5 hours and there were constant applauding and cheers in the square.Climaxes came one after another.Masses almost roared themselves horses and clapped their hands numb,yet they still felt it not enough to express their emotions and joys.

It was already the evening when the parade finished.All lanterns and torches in Tian’anmen Square were lit up and ten thousand fireworks were launched into the sky.The sky was full of sparks and the earth was decorated with all kinds of colourful light.Mass March began at this time.With lights and torches on their hands,they shouted“Long live the Communist Party of China!””Long live the People!”“Long live the Central People’s Government!”They marched one team after another orderly and headed to Jinshui Bridge facing Tian’anmen and cheered“Long live Chairman Mao!”“Long live Chairman Mao!”Chairman Mao was standing on the podium,leaned forward,constantly waving to the crowd and shouted“Long live the people!””Comrades,Viva!”

The parade was completely out of the venue until half past nine.

Two“red stream”headed separately to Dongcheng and Xicheng streets with lights filling the whole Beijing.The parade in the PRCfounding ceremony established the basic framework of PRC’s military parade.Up to now,except slight changes in divisions and personnel as well as in the variety,scale and quantity of military equipment,there have been no profound changes in the National Day parade procedures and contents.
