Confucian Temple in Urumgi

The Confucius Temple is located in the Qianjin crossroad in today’s Urumqi of Xinjiang.The gate of the temple sits north to south.The front and rear halls are in the north.The side hall and a bell-drum tower are in the east.The covered area of the temple is nearly 1,000m2.originally,the temple was built by the Qing Dynasty when expanding the new city of Dihua(today’s Urumqi).

When Xinjiang became a province in 1884,the temple was called Palace of Longevity.It was also called Zhao Zhongci in order to perform sacrifice for commemorating soldiers died in a battle of recapturing Xinjiang.After the Revolution of 1911,the temple was renamed God Temple.Since 1944,the temple has been named the Confucius Temple to perform activities for worshiping Confucius.
