Dongji: Hiding in the Mist of the East Sea

1 min read

As you’ve probably seen in Han Han’s movie The Continent, Dongji Island is rough, wild, yet full of excitement ement, just like youth. It is located off the coastline of Zhoushan Island and is the remotest island under china’s iurisdiction on the east coast. It is also the Chinese Liberation remotest island under China’s juris Army’s most easternly station.

Dongji Island is actually not an island, but a town made up of 28 islands and 108 rocks, and is blessed with typical island-style beauty and traditional fisherman culture. Here you can experience the east’s first sea breezes ,its earliest sunrise.

Early on the morning of october 2, 1942, from the international waters of Dongji Qingbang Island came a loud sound and then huge columns of water that shot up to the sky, realizing that something was amiss, the villagers rushed to the scene of the accident their to help. The foreigners rescue from the wreckage, with gestures and clunky Chinese, told their Qingbang savoiurs that they were British soldiers who had been fighting the Japanese together with Chinese forces. They were captured in Hong Kong and were being shipped to Japan on the Lisbon Maru, where a lifetime of imprisonment and hard-labour no doubt awaitied them. But on the way east, the ship was hit by a torpedo. 384 British soldiers were saved from the wreckage on that fateful day.
