It is the rare and challenging long-distance desert car race in China, only Xinjiang has the conditions to hold such a rally.
This competition is the rally of the longest lasting period and the roughest racing track in the desert, Gobi, reed marshes, and depopulated zones with dangers present almost continuously. When it is started, all kinds of hardships will challenge the willpower of the competitors. It is not only a rally and adventure, but also more like a survival activity under difficult conditions.

Today, China around Taklimakan Desert (international) Rally has become the most influential long-distance automobile and motorcycle off-road rally event, and successfully created a sports name card of Xinjiang.

The openning ceremony of “Nadam Fair” for celerating the 250th anniversary of Chakhar Tribe moved to the west in Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture Xinjiang will usher in a landmark sporting event in 2016-the Thirteenth National Winter Games. In the end of 2010, Xinjiang officially submitted the application for the 2016 Winter Games to the General Administration of Sport, and after a year or so, Xinjiang triumphed over Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Liaoning and other competitors becoming the third to hold the National Winter Games next to Heilongjiang and Jilin Province.
Xinjiang is rich in the resources for winter sports, in recent years, winter tourism and winter outdoor sports have continued to heat up in Xinjiang, the team of ice and snow sports enthusiasts has been growing rapidly. But the obstacles of few facilities, scattered distribution, small scale, and low training class constrained the development of winter sports in Xinjiang. The National Winter Games will improve the level of winter sports both in hardware facilities and human resources; meanwhile, the undertaking of the National Winter Games will promote both the level of ice and snow sports, and winter tourism brand in Xinjiang with the advantages of ice and snow resources.

Medals won by Xinjiang
In the past, most of the medals won by Xinjiang were”less popular” events, such as wrestling, archery, equestrianism and other traditional events with good mass base. Later, Xinjiang sports expanded with many other advantageous events of boxing, athletics, shooting, women’s beach volleyball, and women’s taekwondo.
Many excellent athletes in Xinjiang have won the honor for Xinjiang and China.
In 1963, Xinjiang women’s basketball team won the first prize in the National Basketbal
League, which was the first national champion in the history of Xinjiang basketball.
In 1974, the weight lifter Qian Yukai won one gold and two silver medals at the Seventh Asian Games, and broke the Asian record. It was also the first time for Xinjiang to participate in Asian Games.
At the Eighth Asian Games in 1978, Dai Jianhua took the crown of the 100m hurdles, becoming the first Chinese to receive this award with a gold running shoe awarded by the Asian IAAF, and was praised as “Asian Fast Girl”.
In 1994, Xinjiang saw the first world champion in the history in the 46th Shooting World Championships. Li Wenjie won the men’s rifle shooters champion, also the first gold medal for Chinese men’s rifle in the world games.
