China around Daklimakan Desert(international) Rally, No.9 section (Hami) On September 13, 2012, China around Taklimakan Desert(international) Rally was officially opened. 60 teams across the country with nearly 170 racing vehicles participated in the competition of automobile group and motorcycle group. It is the rare and challenging long-distance desert car race in China, only Xinjiang has the conditions to hold such a rally.

This competition is the rally of the longest lasting period and the roughest racing track in the desert, Gobi, reed marshes, and depopulated zones with dangers present almost continuously. Medals won by Xinjiang

In 1974, the weight lifter Qian Yukai won one gold and two silver medals at the Seventh Asian Games, and broke the Asian record. It was also the first time for Xinjiang to participate in Asian Games.

At the Eighth Asian Games in 1978, Dai Jianhua took the crown of the 100m hurdles, becoming the first Chinese to receive this award with a gold running shoe awarded by the Asian IAAF, and was praised as “Asian Fast Girl”.

In 1994, Xinjiang saw the first world champion in the history in the 46th Shooting World Championships. Li Wenjie won the men’s rifle shooters champion, also the first gold medal for Chinese men’s rifle in the world games.
