3 min read

The whole scenic site is named after Mogan Mountain covering an area of about 100 square kilometers. The name of the mountain came froma legend, which says that at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, the King of Wu Kingdom sent a couple, Gan Jiang and Mo Ye to the mountain forging the most excellent couple of swords in the world. Therefore, the combination of Mo and Gan is added to the name of the mountain. After then, the mountain noted for the ancient story has gradually become the first-class resort with its unique scenery in China. Mogan Mountain highlights the scenic area for its pure spring water, cool summer as well as the greenery of bamboo. The mountain ranks among the four best summer resorts with Beidaihe, Mt. Lushan and Mt. Jishan. As a state-level scenic tourist site, it has attracted countless visitors from home and abroad.

Mogan Mountain belongs to the Tianmu Mountain Ranges. The undulating mountains with the main peak(Tashan Peak) at 724 meters above sea level show tourists its graceful charm. The central scenic site has 43 square kilometers. Mogan Mountain enjoys the fame of “Top Mountain in the Southern China”for its natural surroundings. Bamboos, clouds and springs are three wonderful sights of the mountain, and verdancy, freshness, quietness, and coolness are four peculiarities. The bamboo scenery comes first among the three sceneries, which is characterized by numerous varieties, superior quality and the largest coverage. Two kinds of rarebamboo called “Gold Inlaid with Jade”and “Jade Inlaid with Gold”catch one’s eyes most with their unique appearances and innate decorative patterns. The unbroken bamboo forest stretches from the inside to the outside of the scenic site, and totals an area of 127 square kilometers. The tall bamboo grows densely all over the mountain which provides green shades for tourists while touring. The cloud scenery varies irregularly with the unpredictable changes of weather at all times. Looking down at clouds from the zenith of the mountain, the fluctuating clouds float up and down as great waves. When the clusters of cloud keep at a standstill, they look like the piles of thick cotton fibre. Flying waterfalls, gurgling springs and lucid streams constitute beautiful sceneries over the mountain as a series of active landscape paintings. As to the four peculiarities of the mountain, they make tourists relaxed and joyful. Firstly, the verdant plants greet one’s eyes everywhere.92 percent of the mountain has been clothed with greenery thatgives visitors a pleasant feeling, and they are intoxicated with the tour.

Secondly, fresh air brings with the delicate fragrance, wherever you are, strolling on the winding paths or taking a rest in a villa. Thirdly, Mogan Mountain is also a rather quiet place where tourists can get away from the noisy world, as if they stay in a fictitious land of peace. Lastly, it is because of the mountain at the higher elevation, and the extensive afforestation, the average temperature of July and August is only at 24.1℃. The temperature here is much lower than that of neighbouring areas in summer, particularly before the time of sunrise and after sunset. Although Mogan Mountain becomes the ideal summer resort, and it is praised as”the Cool and Placid World”, yet, its appearance goes with the alternation of four seasons.

Tourists would obtain quite different views in different seasons.

A lot of scenic sights and historical relics are scattered about the mountain, such as Jianchi(Sword Pond), Luhuadang(Reed Marsh), Wuling Village, Guaishijiao Forest Park, Ancient Tianchi(Heaven Pond), the Ancient Site of Tianchi Temple, Mogan Lake, Forest of Tablets, and Dicui Pool. About 200 villas with different architectural styles from England, France, Russia, Germany, and the United States of America provide tourists another distinctive sight on the mountain.
