In total, 10, 942 athletes from 204 National 0lympic Committees came to Beijing for a common goal, to enjoy the Olympic spirit. During the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Chinese athletes made remarkable achievements, winning51 gold medals, ranking first in the world: the US won36gold medals, ranking second . The total medals won by China (gold, silver, copper) were 100, ranking second while the US was first with 110 total medals. As of today, this represents the best result achieved by the China Sport lympic Teams.
