1 min read

In November 2004, with an investment of 15.8 million yuan, a village reconstructionand extension project was begun, covering a total area of 128 hectares, including a residentialarea of 12 hectares. Thanks to scientific planning, delicate design, and careful construction, the project was completed within just 10 months.

Now, with enhanced floor space of 80square meters on average, the households of the village can accommodate 600 tourists aday. Of the village’s 58 households, 45 accommodate tourists, a new profit center for local economic growth. After the reconstruction, Guandi became the pilot village in localrestoration and urbanization.

After renovation, accommodations within the villagers’ houses were greatly improved. The previous traditional brick beds that occupied nearly half of a room were replaced bystandard modern beds; and instead of the previous outdoor public toilets, now each standardguestroom is equipped with an indoor toilet. In different seasons, solar or electric waterheaters are available for tourists to bath at any time. With all domestic animals movedoutside to the courtyards, tourists staying in the fanners’ houses are not bothered by therustling of the benign beasts. While the accommodations are approaching conditions nearerto urban hotel standards, the countryside flavor remains.

The pumpkin-adomed windowsills, the strings of golden corn bobs hung on fencing, the big iron wok heated on kitchen range, and seasonal fruits and vegetables planted on the mountain slopes near the courtyards allcombine to offer tourists a taste of the quiet, leisurely mountain village lifestyle.
