A Moving Palace on the Grassland

2 min read

In early September, I went to Hejing County and went directly to the Bayinbulak Prairie.

Although the prairie in this season was no longer green, cattle and sheep could still be found on the grassland. The yellow autumn grass made the herdsmen more spirited who were cutting the grass for winter. This also meant the beginning of moving to another place in autumn. Camel caravan carrying tents and sheep flocks coming out of the mountains from time to time heightened the atmosphere of moving. The grassland in this season was colder and bleaker compared with the lovely and poetic scenes disappeared in June and July.

The weather on the grassland in September was like the face of a kid, which changed without warning. It might be sunny at this moment and started to rain or even rain heavily the next minute, so I became a little worried about whether we could see the making of a Mongolian yurt as arranged. We entered worriedly the Husitaikou in the depth of Bayinbulak, narrow basin in the mountains.”There are lot of cattle and sheep, and horses.” exclaimed Xiao Ma, our driver. We looked out of the window. What magnificent scene! Cattle, sheep and horses were all over the slopes, looking for and chewing autumn grass leisurely. Some lifted their heads and gave us a glimpse listlessly and continued to look for their breakfast. But what really excited me was the forest of tall white birches on the mountain, which seemed more green and luxuriant against the yellow grass, like a protector of the grassland, brimming with energy and vitality and full of confidence.
