Tibetan Culture

1 min read

In the vast land of Tibet which is considered as the “Roof of the World ”, the hard-working and smart Tibetan people have made a great wonderful culture. The Tibetan architecture, costumes, cuisine, folklore, epic tales, dances and festivals are very interesting to outsiders.

Tibetan people have a deep love for art, through which they show their understanding of nature, life, belief and religion. One kind of painting, mural painting, can be seen where there is a wall. Over the years, another kind of painting called Tangka slowly came out of the royal palaces into the common people’s life, which can be seen everywhere from tall buildings to tents.

Another form of painting, wood carving, is closely connected to religion. Some contain only one Buddhist character, some contain a wonderful story, and some are only big enough to display a page of Buddhist reading. Wood carving requires highly skillful cutting. In a stony place, it is natural that stone is the first choice to be used to express human feelings. That is stone carving. Stone carving which is connected perfectly with nature shows energy.

Adornments are a necessary part of Tibetan costumes. There are different kinds of adornments including head adornments, ear adornments, chest adornments, waist adornments, finger rings, etc. And materials they use are very rich including gold, silver, pearl, silk, etc.
