THE REST OF TAIWAN

1 min read

Ali Shan

Right in the middle of Taiwan is the Ali Shan resort and Taiwan’s tallest mountain Yu Shan, which stands 12, 966 feet (3, 952 m) above the island. Try to get here on the weekdays when it’s not so crowded and take a ride on the steam train.

Penghu Islands

Starkly beautiful, the 64 islands of Penghu are covered in brush and grassy plains.

Beaches and tranquil villages await visitors. Makung, on Penghu Island is the only city and has a quant harbour, outdoor markets and Taiwan’s oldest temple. Paisha and Hsiyu, two islands linked to Penghu by a bridge, have ancient trees and stark coves. On the south of Hsiyu is the Hsitai Fort. The weather on these islands is best from May to September, the rest of the year can be cold. There are flights from Taiwan to the islands and a ferry service from Kaohsiung.

 Tainan

On Taiwan’s southwest coast is Tainan, the ancient provincial capital of Taiwan. Loaded with temples that come alive during the many temple festivals and the remnants of the town, Tainan offers a great historic getaway. It’s also a great spot for eating and nightlife.
