The History of Chime-bells

The chime-bell,cast with bronze,is a member of the percussion instrument family in ancient China.It consists of oval bells in different sizes arranged to the order of the pitch, which are hung on bell cot.

In the early the Shang Dynasty,there had been Serial Bells in existence,which was made up of three pieces of bells.This ancient instrument was used in royal performances,while it was unpopular among the folk people.On the occasions of wars,royal meetings and sacrifices,people would play it.

The most remarkable chime-bell is the one found in the tomb of King Yi of the Zeng State in the Warring States Period in Hubei Province.This set of bells is well designed,and have five octaves.It has been the bells,which have the largest number,scale,and the best preservation.It is a wonder in the human history.
