2 min read

The anecdotes about tea from the past to today were very rich and colorful,no matter in the forms of legends or historical records;it was just these interesting stories that constituted the unique scene of Chinese tea culture.

It is said that the reason Lu Yu devoted himself to tea affair research had muchto do with his teacher,Monk Zhiji.Lu Yu had prepared tea for Monk Zhiji since he was sma11;and under his teacher’s guidance and instruction,he not only began to be greatly interested in tea affairs and accumulated much experience and knowledgeabout tea affairs, but also acquired a supreme skill of tea brewing.According to the Lunyilu,Monk Zhiji was good at and loved tea tasting very much, but he quitteddrinking tea when Lu Yu went out to travel, because he only drank the tea that was prepared by Lu Yu personally.

Later,Emperor Daizong of the Tang dynasty heard about this and summoned Monk Zhiji into the palace;the emperor ordered the tea preparation master-hand in the palace to prepare tea for Monk Zhiji, but he only sipped a little and didn’t drinkit any more. The emperor was very surprised,so he summoned Lu Yu to go the capital and prepare tea.Without knowing Lu Yu’s coming into the Palace,Monk Zhiji drank the cup of tea off, saying happily,”This is like the tea prepared by Lu Yu!”Maybe this tale was not true, but it was sufficient to show that during the process of LuYu’s researching for the tea affairs with great concentration,he really acquired a supreme skill of tea steaming, and thus was called”Tea Sage”creditably.
