In March of 1945, the Troupe attached to the China Central Movie Studio performed The Model Teacher of Myriad Ages by the playwright Zhang Junxiang, with the famous actress Bai Yang playing the leading role.

Even after the Lyceum changed its name to the Shanghai People’s Art Theatre in 1949, it still remained the center of Shanghai’s drama scene. The theatre nurtured the talents of such famous play-wrights as Xia Yan and Sha Ye, the renowned director Huang Zuolin, and many more. He and his wife, Ivgenia Balanova, opened a ballet schoolin Shanghai where they trained many outstanding students.
