Mount Wugong

Mount Wugong lies in the southeast of Pingxiang City, in the borderland between Jiangxi Province and Hunan Province. Occupying a land of over 260 square kilometers, Mount Wugong contains the highest peak within Jiangxi Province: White Crane Peak, which is 1918.3 meters above sea level. It has been listed into the three famous mountains in the south of the Yangtze River, together with Mount Heng and Mount Lu. Mount Wugong is a scenic and historic interest area combing magnificent natural landscape and rich scenery of humanities.

The scenic spots spread the whole mountain, and it is famous for”one lake, two springs, five waterfalls, seven ponds, seven peaks, sixteen caves, seventy-five scenic spots”. Now the planned area has reached 160 square kilometers. The whole scenic area can be divided into six zones: Golden Peak Scenic Area, Lion-Sheep Screen Scenic Area, Nine-Dragon Mountain Scenic Area, Fayun Boundary Scenic Area, Yaowang Temple Scenic Area and Red Rock Valley Scenic Area.

Mount Wugong has formed a unique sight under the influence of geological structure, lithology and climate forcing. The mountain is covered with deep valleys, tranquil ponds, flying waterfalls, running springs, soaring peaks and bizarre stones.

In addition, its main spots such as grand waterfalls, marvelous meadow, peerless ancient altars, unusual giant ganoderma and numerous thousand-year-old trees are the famous attractions you can not miss. Meadow as large as hundreds of thousands of acres gets along gently on the mountain top with the elevation of more than 1600 meters. Spring’s emerald, summer’s green, autumn’s yellow are the marvelous spectacle of Mount Wugong. You can enjoy a different view in different season, even different moment on Mount Wugong.

The history and culture of Mount Wugong can be traced back to ancient times.

Since the Han and Jin Dynasties, the spectacular scenery of Mount Wugong has attracted the attention of those Taoist and Buddhist monks who was looking for a worshipping place. And since the Tang and Song Dynasties, many famous scholars and poets have arrived here. Among them Xu Xiake, the great traveler and geographer of the Ming Dynasty, composed a famous poem for it.

Mount Wugong has a subtropical and temperate climate, distinct four seasons, and sufficient rainfall. Its annual average temperature reaches 15℃. The highest temperature in summer is only 23℃, which makes it an ideal summer resort.

Mount Wugong has a variety of wild animals and plants.There are over 2000 species of plants and over 200 kinds of animals.Therefore,Mount Wugong earns itself the reputation of“Natural Botanical Garden”and“Natural Zoological Garden”.

There are also rare species under national protection such as South China Tiger,Stump-tailed Monkey,Sambar Deer,Taiwan Pine.

Mount Wugong enjoys superior geographical location and good communication,since it lies in the golden tourism belt between Hunan Province and Jiangxi Province.

Additionally,Shanghai-Yunnan Highway,No.320 State Road and Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway go through the territory from east to west,and No.319 State Road crosses it from north to south.In this way,a convenient traffic network has formed.
