Literature of the Tang Dynasty

1 min read

The Sui Dynasty was right before the Tang Dynasty, but it was too short a period to have important literary achievements. The Tang Dynasty, which lasted from 618 to 907,is often referred to as China’s golden age,a glorious period of relative peace and economic prosperity.

During the Tang era,China was then the largest and strongest country in the world, having far-reaching influence especially in East Asian countries.Eurasian exchange flourished across what has become known as the Silk Road. All these factors, together with former experience, contributed to its grand cosmopolitan culture of arts and literature, which was fully manifested in great achievements made in poetry, prose and fiction. In general, literature in the Tang Dynasty is more idealistic and lyric than rationalistic, extroversive than introversive.
