Kashgar Airport is located in north of Kashgar City in Kashgar Prefecture of Xinjiang and is 10km from the city center. It was constructed in 1953 and approved to be opened to the outside world by the State Council on April 23, 1993. Civil aviation management departments of China and Pakistan signed a transportation agreement on March 11, 2004 for increased openness between the two countries’ traffic rights.

On April 30, 2004, the Kashgar Airport was opened and an international flight from Urumqi to Islamabad proceeded, with a stop in Kashgar.The Busiest Railway Port-Alataw Pass “There is no grass on the mountain, no flying birds in the sky, but only rolling stones blown by the wind.” This is the description of Alataw Pass by many people in the past.

On December 27, 2012, county-level city started to be established in Alataw Pass, resulting in 156 various facilities being constructed at Alataw Pass Port. These facilities include railway station houses of 4,800km, 5 reloading areas including 3 closed reloading warehouses 10 broad rails, 16 standard rails, 10 reloading lines, goods yard and locomotive maintenance area. The annual capacity of cargo transportation is more than 16 million tons and the number of passenger use is up to 100,000. The area of Alataw Pass Port is 155km-, of which urban construction planning covers 15km2. The area presently covered by infrastructure is 7.9 km.
