In general,Chinese Operas can be divided into two genres. The first is based on the story-telling and ballad-singing arts such as Huiju Opera of Shanghai,Yuju Opera of Henan Province,Luju Opera of Shandong Province.Tibetan Opera has also been greatly influenced by the ballad tradition of that nationality. The second genre developed on the basis of songs and dances, such as Yangko,a folk dance popular in the north China, and Flower-drum Opera,Tea-picking Opera and Flower-lantern Opera in south China.

Shanghai Grand Theatre

Shanghai Grand Theatre has become a representative building in Shanghai for its unique style and beautiful outlook. With a total construction area of more than 62 000 square meters and a total height of 40 meters,it has 10 storeys,2 for underground,2 for lofts and 6 on the ground. When night falls, the crystal-like theater glitters in infinite brillance, giving people an impression of metropolitan art.

The Techniques of Stage

In traditional Chinese operas there is a minimum of stoge equipment;he time, environment, relations among the roles and the characters of the people in the story are all demonstrated through singing, speaking and body movements. This type of artistic exaggeration is brought to perfection in the superb martial arts skills of the performers when simulating battles.

Stylized patterns of singing, dialogue, acting and acrobatics were gradually formed-all in coordination with specific musical rhythms.
