Bajing Pavilion

3 min read

In the north of Ganzhou is the Bajing Pavilion, which is the symbol of the city and lies at the confluence of Zhangjiang River and Gongjiang River. The 285-meter and 3-floor pavilion is an imitation of an ancient building, with the features ofmagnificent upturned eaves, sets of brackets, carved beams and vermilion pillars, it covers an area of 574 square meters. According to the historical record, Kong Zonghan built the original rock pavilion in Jiayou Years (1056-1063) of theNorthern Song Dynasty. Kong Zonghan, came from Qufu of Shandong Province, was the 46th generation great-grandson of Confucius. Because the city, especially its northeast part, was hit by flood every year, Kong decided to forge the basement with iron and build the wall with rock. Later, he replaced the earth wall and built a pavilion on the wall. After the pavilion was built, Kong created some paintings and invited Poet Su Dongpo to write poems for them. Su wrote”The Eight Poems and a Preface to the Bajing Paintings of Qianzhou”and”A Post-preface to the Bajing Paintings”. Su was the first person in history that has ever put forth the idea of eight scenes to beautify a city, which formed a group of unique scenic spots for tourists and later generations, also brought about Yanshan Eight Scenes, Shanghai Eight Scenes, Hong Kong Eight Scenes and Taiwan Eight Scenes. This idea, after all, is a milestone of Chinese tourist culture.

In Bajing Pavilion is the Ganzhou Museum with rich historical cultural relics.

Around the pavilion is a fresh and quiet park -Bajing Park, named after its place of interest-Bajing Pavilion. This park covers an area of 79016.3 square meters,66 percent of which is covered with water. The land here is divided into two parts by the annular man-made lake, which is a pleasant place for tourists to boat on. In the lake, the lights are gleaming and the water is rippling; on its bank, willows and bambous are waving, laurels are giving off fragrance; the island in the middle of the lake is covered with lots of green trees. The four arch bridges, lying silently on the four directions of the lake, connect not only the two parts of the land, but also are necessary entrances for boating.

On the oval land of the lake, the lawn is like a green carpet and various flowersare in blossom. Most of plants in the garden are persimmon trees. In autumn, leaves fall down and red persimmons spread everywhere. How beautiful the scenery is!

There is also a memorial hall for the leader of Chinese Workers’Movement-Chen Zanxian.Hanbi Hut,Flowers Garden and other garden architectures are all within the park. The arch-belt-shaped land around the lake is full of trees, just like a crooked track to a fairy place. The unique scene is the moon-shaped lake at the entrance of the park.On the corner of north ancient wall of the garden, lies the magnificent Bajing Pavilion, from which you can have wonderful scenery of Zhangjiang River and Gongjiang River flowing together into Ganjiang River.

That’s all for Bajing Pavilion.Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. You will have 40 minutes to have a look around and take photos. If you have any problems,do let me know.I would like to repeat our bus number,A6028.Please don’t forget.Thank you again!
